Help Center News, June 2019

The Computer Club Help Center is experimenting with a Wiki. A Wiki is not new in the world of computers, but finding ways to leverage the features of a wiki, to benefit the Help Center, is new.

How can the Wiki help you?

The Help Center Wiki will contain information that may be helpful to residents and volunteers. What kind of information? In the domain of the Help Center, the information will be about computers and computer problems the Help Center volunteers encounter. The information on a Wiki page is likely to contain links to other information on the internet.

This Wiki is configured to allow anybody to contribute or ask questions. The Wiki is not a forum, but each page of the Wiki has a Discussion section at the bottom of the page. Anybody, can submit comments or questions in the Discussion section of a page. One of the goals of the Wiki is to be responsive to the Discussion component of pages. Editors of the Wiki will be getting notifications of entries in the Discussion component of a page. Anybody can subscribe to the disucssion of a page. Entries in the Discussion section of a page are moderated. That means one of the editors of the Wiki must approve the content before it is visible to other readers. Why did we choose to moderate Discussion entries? Because within days of enabling Discussion, comments from BOTS showed up. To say the least, the comments were not on subject.

Who are the editors of the Wiki? Right now it is a small group of Help Center volunteers.

Here is a link to the Home page of the Wiki. https://sctxcompclub.net/doku.php
